Happy New Year!
Did you make your resolutions for 2006?  Not yet?  Consider devoting more time to lifelong learning.  Set goals -- not fifty impossible goals, but one or two that are "real."  Read more.  Help others to read, and to read more.  If you feel the need to update your B.A., call me about a Certificate in our college currently offered in accounting, environmental management, human resources, information systems management, and supply chain management.
Regular weekday classes of the Winter Quarter begin on January 9 See you soon!
                                                                                                              Best wishes,

George Schnarre

George H. Schnarre has been named our 2006 Arrowhead Distinguished Executive Officer.  A luncheon event to honor the recipient, held annually since 1990, has become the premier Award recognition for the executives in this region, attracting more than 300 business and governmental leaders throughout Southern California.  Mr. Schnarre is a 13 year director of the National Association of Realtors and has served on over 32 committees since 1964 with the California Association of Realtors.  He is past president of East Inland Empire Association of Realtors, an Honorary Life Members, and Realtor of the Year.  "The boy from Muscoy" is past president of the San Bernardino Area Chamber of Commerce and the St. Bernardine Hospital Foundation, as well as a current member of my Dean's Executive Advisory Board.  The luncheon in Mr. Schnarre's honor will be one of the first major college events held in the new Santos Manuel Student Union on Tuesday, March 7. Net proceeds from the 2006 Arrowhead Distinguished Executive Officer Luncheon will benefit the George H. Schnarre Endowed Scholarship for deserving students who attend the College of Business and Public Administration at California State University, San Bernardino.   Contact Gina for further information at (909) 537-5770.

Norm King

CSUSB has been named as one of 22 universities nationally to be identified as "Tier II' transportation center grant awardee.  The University Transportation Center will become a reality beginning January 30 with the arrival of our first director, Norm King, the retiring executive director of the San Bernardino Associate Governments (SANBAG).   The University Transportation Center will promote research on transportation issues and create an integrated transportation database.  A focus will be maintained on the policies and practices that impact effective movement of people and goods through and to the Inland Empire.  The College of Business and Public Administration currently offers an undergraduate B.A. with a concentration in Transportation and Logistics.

Meeting diverse educational needs of the Inland Empire is central to our mission.  We are not just a "destination site" for those seeking higher education worldwide; we are graduating the future leaders of this region.  As such, it is important to be aware of studies such as the November release by the National Center for Public Policy and Higher Education that noted why minority education should be a national priority.  They examined projected demographic trends of the work force becoming higher percentage minority (doubling to 37% by 2020 from 1980), against the current gap in educational attainment between white and minority workers.  This led them to conclude that unless the educational gap is closed, the proportion of the workforce with a college or high school education will decrease significantly.  Closing the gap depends on affordability and preparedness of high school graduates for college.  CSUSB continues to help close that gap for students in our region.  The federal government has recognized Cal State San Bernardino as a Hispanic Serving Institution, making it eligible for federal grants, funding and programs.  Our continuing commitment to diversity in higher education was recognized once again by Hispanic Outlook in Education magazine, which named CSUSB one of its “Publisher’s Picks” for 2005.  At CSUSB where registration and fees for full time in-State undergraduates this year total $3300 per year, known ethnicity  is as follows (10% of the total undergraduate population is unknown):

Hispanic
African American
Asian/Pacific Islander
Native American
Non-Resident Alien
White
