September 2005
Have you heard someone say lately, "This is the time for me to go
back to earn my MBA!" or "My neighbor wants to find out about getting a
bachelor's degree?" If so, tell them that the CSUSB's College of
Business & Public Administration is still taking applications for the
fall quarter that begins on September 22. Direct them
to our website where they will
find application information (click "apply" on top bar). We offer value with accredited
programs. On a personal note, it is
stunning when I realize that my family and I have
already been in this community for a year. I have met so many
stakeholders in the College, but look forward to the years ahead as we
develop programs to better serve our students and the community.
Best
wishes, Karen Dill Bowerman,
Dean
of CBPA

CBPA's Inland Empire Center for Entrepreneurship (IECE) was designated
the recipient of funding for an “Integrated Technology Transfer Network"
(ITTN) in cooperation with the U.S. Army Research Laboratory. Dr.
Mike Stull will oversee the program, and Monica Brule is the program manager.
IECE shall create the technology transfer network to teach business
skills to minority graduates in science, engineering, or math from
around the U.S. Entrepreneurial teaching areas will facilitate commercialization of technologies within the
Army’s focus areas. Post-grad students will come to CBPA, live in the
residence halls for the winter and spring quarters, study business,
entrepreneurship, and technology transfer, and then they will be given
the opportunity to apply their skills with the Army Research Laboratory
in a summer internship. Curriculum will be ready for delivery in
January when the first group of students arrive.
Student Profile. MBA Student Ezekiel Bonillas was featured as Student
Role Model in LatinoGraduate.net.
Following is a portion of the eMagazine bio, and the
remainder is seen on
their site.
"Education: Graduate of La Quinta
High School in La Quinta, California in 1999. He
obtained 2 BA degrees at the same time. B.A.

Spanish-Business Management concentration and
received them on December 2004 from California
State University, San Bernardino. He is now
working to obtain a M.B.A. in Finance also at
California State University, San Bernardino and
is expected to graduate in June 2006.
Background: Ezekiel
became a business owner when he was a junior in
high school and currently owns two investment
properties. He has served in multiple
administrative levels of California State
University San Bernardino student government
member as Student Board of Directors, Vice
President of Finance, and President."

Professor Guenther Kress [center,
with Dean Bowerman and President Karnig] was named "Outstanding
Administrator - Education" by the Inland Empire Chapter of the American
Society of Public Administration at its June awards luncheon held in
Riverside.
Professor Sue Greenfeld
(Management) was recognized by Springboard as their
"Education Partner of the Year." As stated in Springboard's Annual
Report, "It's with the help of outstanding Board members like Dr.
Greenfeld that we continue to exceed industry standards."
CBPA's Internship Program is now
more accessible to the community, with one central contact number,
regardless of the functional area of the internship project. Staff
will assist by posting the opening for all CBPA students, and getting
the information to the appropriate department internally.
Organizations that post openings at least 3 to 4 weeks prior to the
start of a new quarter typically have the optimal pool of candidates,
but it is still not too late for the fall quarter. Projects are
usually structured to be ten weeks in duration, and about 15 hours per
week. Most student interns receive an hourly wage from the
organization, and all receive academic credit from the university.
If you are a potential internship host organization, please contact us
by clicking here or calling (909) 537-3581. CBPA's Internship
Program is integral to our mission as an applied college. Last
year CBPA had 250 interns!
"Learn : Apply : Succeed!"
The 2006-07 Dean's Executive Advisory
Board has been formed. The
membership
roster is
posted, and I look forward to the Board's first meeting of the
academic year next week. New faculty will be introduced, and a
feedback session on what constitutes top quality business and public
administration programs for our two-county region will be held.
