THE COLLEGE COMMUNIQUÉ - Dean's update to the community |

College of
Business and Public Administration |
|
Winter Quarter is always charged with
the activity of career searches! The reality of "life after graduation" begins to hit
about a fourth of our student population. Sixty-two percent
of our graduates from the College of Business and Public Administration
will remain in the Inland Empire. However, we know that almost
half
of IE residents who currently commute for their jobs would be willing to
take a cut in pay in order to avoid commutes to Orange, San Diego, and
LA counties. Because some of those individuals are our
graduates, it goes without saying that we are dedicated to maintaining
and increasing job growth in this two county area. Let me
know how we can help; sometimes employment growth is a matter of our communicating the availability of qualified
workforce.
George H. Schnarre, our 2006 Arrowhead Distinguished Executive Officer,
is being honored at the annual luncheon on Tuesday, March 7. As Mr. Schnarre says, "Make George Hurt!" He will match every dollar above your
ticket price for the scholarship fund. Net
proceeds from the 2006 Arrowhead Distinguished Executive Officer
Luncheon will benefit the George H. Schnarre Endowed Scholarship
for deserving students in the College of Business and Public
Administration.
Call (909) 537-5770 for tickets. Special thanks
are extended to sponsors of this year's event: Platinum
- Hub Construction Specialties, Inc., St. Bernardine Medical Center and Foundation, Chicago
Title Company, and the Racoosina Family; Gold
- Gresham Savage Nolan & Tilden; Bronze - Arrowhead
Credit Union, Brickley Environmental, Citizens Business Bank, Matich
Corporation, and CBPA's Otto Chang.
FREE TAX HELP for an estimated 2000+ low income
IE taxpayers:
Through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA), our accounting students are again providing free income tax
preparation, both on campus and in the community. By the end of
February, students had already processed 730
returns! Students are trained to prepare basic Federal and
California
resident tax return for low income and elderly taxpayers. Assistance is also available for those who are
eligible for
earned income credit, education credits, dependent
care credit, and
child tax credit. VITA volunteers are NOT able to prepare tax returns for nonresidents,
small business owners, or owners of rental properties or those filing
married separately. For further information, contact the faculty
advisor Janet Courts,
(909) 537-3992 or vita@csusb.edu. WHEN:
Last Tuesday the College of Business and Public
Administration hosted another "first" --
an Open House for current students.
Students
were invited to explore the dean's office, meeting informally with the Department Chairs, Faculty,
officers of student organizations, and the Deans. Information was
provided on our MBA and
MPA
programs, as well as internship opportunities.
