THE COLLEGE COMMUNIQUÉ - Dean's  update to the community

College of Business and Public Administration
California State University, San Bernardino

          Dean Karen Bowerman                                                                                          March 2006

Winter Quarter is always charged with the activity of career searches!  The reality of "life after graduation" begins to hit about a fourth of our student population.  Sixty-two percent of our graduates from the College of Business and Public Administration will remain in the Inland Empire.  However, we know that almost half of IE residents who currently commute for their jobs would be willing to take a cut in pay in order to avoid commutes to Orange, San Diego, and LA counties.   Because some of those individuals are our graduates, it goes without saying that we are dedicated to maintaining and increasing job growth in this two county area.   Let me know how we can help; sometimes employment growth is a matter of our communicating the availability of qualified workforce.
                                                                         Best wishes,

                                               Karen Dill Bowerman, Dean

group photoThe Department of Public Administration is completing a state-of-the-art online Master of Public Administration (MPA) program.  In addition to the current web instructional methodology such as electronic files, links, and discussion boards, the program is replete with streaming video of the instructor in every module, video-taped guest speakers, interactive exercises, extensive audio and electronic lectures supplemented with flash video. The ability to put together this exceptionally user-friendly and interactive program was supported by a $3.2M contract in conjunction with the Defense Acquisition University.  On February 7th CSUSB President Karnig (right) and the Department Chair Monty VanWart (3rd from left) traveled to Washington to update Congressman Jerry Lewis (center) and DAU officials on the program's progress of a pilot this spring and the schedule to “go public” with the first cohort in fall 2006.
