Steps to Graduation

Not sure you are on track to graduate? Your next steps would depend on where you are in your academic program:
  • You have chosen Administration but cannot decide on a concentration,
  • You have chosen a concentration but are not sure which courses to take, or
  • You are close to graduation.

You have chosen Administration but cannot decide on a concentration.

  • Good news is that you do not need to declare a concentration immediately. You can take administration core courses and GE courses while you decide. In fact, taking core courses can help you decide. The list of core courses includes courses from most concentrations. For example, SCM 304 (supply chain management) will give you insight into the Supply Chain Management and Transportation & Logistics concentrations. INFO 101 and INFO 309 will provide a good introduction to Information Assurance and Security Management and Information Management concentrations.
  • Visit the CBPA Advising and Resource Center in JB-134. The advisors can discuss concentration options with you.  Go to their web site for more information at  CBPA Student Advising
To officially declare a concentration or to add a second concentration or minor, go to Office of Records (UH-171), complete a Change of Major form, pay the fee, and submit the form at the records window. Records employees at the Information Desk can help you complete the form.

You have chosen a concentration but are not sure which courses to take.

  • Run a PAWS analysis. A PAWS is a personalized program plan that lists all of your graduation requirements including all courses in your particular program. It will show you course requirements you have met and list the courses you will need to successfully complete in order to graduate. Some guidelines:
    • Run a PAWS before you register for classes each quarter. The PAWS analysis adds classes to your PAWS report “real time” as you register for and complete courses.
    • If you are a transfer student in your first quarter at CSUSB, your PAWS will not show your transfer credit until after records employees can evaluate your transcripts. This evaluation can take weeks depending on the time in the academic year that your transcripts were sent to CSUSB. If you have questions about courses you should take while waiting for this evaluation, see an academic advisor in the Information and Decision Sciences department – JB-460.
    • You can run a PAWS through MyCoyote at  mycoyote.csusb.edu
  • See concentration program advising materials. Our Course Offerings link on the left lists the courses and descriptions. Advising brochures for Information Assurance and Security Management, Information Management, Supply Chain Management, and Transportation and Logistics concentrations can be obtained from the Information and Decision Sciences department in JB-460.
  • See an academic advisor – go to the IDS department office in JB-460.

You are close to graduation.

  • Your PAWS report will give you a fairly accurate indication as to how close you are to graduation and the courses you have yet to take. HOWEVER, YOU MUST FILE FOR A GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS CHECK (called a “grad check”) WITH THE OFFICE OF RECORDS TO GRADUATE.
  • File for a grad check at least two quarters before you plan to graduate. This will trigger a chain of events:
    1. Office of Records will formally match your student record against your major and concentration program requirements. They will complete and send you a grad check indicating any courses you need to complete and any graduation requirement problems (GPA too low, for example). If you file on time, you will receive your grad check before you must register for your last quarter. You will be able to adjust your schedule to meet any minor graduation problems that you did not anticipate. You can file for your grad check after the filing deadline but you will pay a late fee and probably will not receive your grad check report until after your last quarter’s registration period.
    2. You will receive commencement ceremony information – commencement dates, times and ticket information.
    3. You will learn how to rent a cap and gown.
    4. You will be invited to join the CSUSB Alumni Association.
  • See an academic advisor in the Information and Decision Sciences Department – JB-460.
