Job description:  To assist Financial Advisors with the financial statement analysis, event arrangement, market research, etc.  This internship program will provide students with a thorough orientation regarding how to help new clients obtain financing through different ways.  This includes regular line of credit, term long, trade finance, asset-based lending, etc.  INTERNS will have the opportunity to interact with staff of local Chamber of Commerce, officers with the Small Business Administration department and local business owners.  The INTERN will also assist with answering phone calls concerning simple financial related questions.

As part of the International Trade Administration, our network includes offices in over 80 countries that gather current leads, publish market information and facilitate foreign trade contacts.

The Internship Program is designed to provide students with a thorough orientation to international trade. This includes export marketing research, documentation, regulations, shipping, trade show recruitment, export financing and other export related activities. Participants will have the opportunity to interact with international trade professionals, accompany trade specialists on client calls, learn how to research marketing information, access databases (NTDB, USG Export Portal, etc) and participate in telemarketing campaigns. Participation in the Internship Program also requires answering telephone calls concerning export-related questions, assisting walk-in visitors and assisting our office in other administrative duties.

Students interested in applying for a position in this program should be studying International Relations, Business Management, Economics, Marketing, or other disciplines related to international business. Candidates must also be U.S. citizens. The program length is 16 hours (2 days) a week for a six-month time period. This is a non-paid internship. Credit is often worked out between the student and the degree granting university. Upon satisfactory completion of the internship program, the student is awarded with the Certificate of Training and a Letter of Recommendation.

Excellent oral, written and communication skills are required. Computer knowledge in programs such as Microsoft Office, Lotus Applications, as well as experience with Internet-based research, are helpful. Student's overall and concentration Grade Point Averages will be considered in the selection process.

Who are the Palm Springs POWER Baseball

Palm Springs Power Baseball Club Inc. was started in the fall of 2003 by Owner/President Andrew Starke and played its first season in 2004. As the only sports franchise in the Coachella Valley, we have provided quality baseball and inexpensive entertainment for the last 5 years. Our organization operates year round, participating in many community events, and consists of two different teams, the Palm Springs Power, a collegiate all-star team (May – July), and the Palm Springs Chill, a developmental team for professional players (February), as well as the non-profit Palm Springs Power Foundation (Tax ID # 20-1878059).

 

What are the student’s main goals and objectives?

1.          Book and organize special events

2.          Learn the everyday business activities of a sports organization.

3.          Learn how to market a business (specifically POWER Baseball) throughout the community.

4.          Learn how to interact with business partners and represent the Palm Springs POWER Baseball team.

What training will be provided for the student with each task and objective?

The student intern will be trained by employees of the Palm Springs POWER Baseball team. The student intern will be trained through witnessing the POWER Baseball employees operate the business, speak to other organizations, and market the POWER Baseball team. The employees will also teach through example, maintaining professional attire, actions, and character. Once preliminary training is complete, the intern will be under direct supervision until the supervisor feels comfortable with the intern to take on projects of their own. Palm Springs POWER Baseball is aware that the internship is a continuous learning process, thus, always teaching, evaluating, complimenting and giving constructive criticism to the student intern.

 

Who will supervise the student?

Baylor Nicole Love, the Director of Marketing and Promotions, will supervise the student intern with access to Andrew Starke, owner and general manager of the Palm Springs POWER Baseball team.

Duties:

-      Set up special appearances for the POWER mascot, Rocky the Ram

-      Make and answering phone calls

-      Banquet, golf tournament, mixer, festival and parade assistance

-      Street Fair Participation

-      Contact non-profit organizations to create partnerships

Students will need to be responsible and reliable individuals willing to take part in all aspects of the Palm Springs POWER business. The student will be doing work on computers and speaking to other people and organizations. An outgoing personality is a must! 

Number of hours the student will work a week

The student will be working 10-15 hours a week in the office and 10-15 hours per week at special events and games (average no more than 20 hours/week total). The student will work out a regular schedule with POWER Baseball once hired. The regular hours must be within the business day (8am-5pm), and special events hours will be vary. 

 

Important Dates

The Palm Springs Power Foundation Annual Golf Tournament May 2nd

The season starts May 30th and runs through July 26th. Applicants will need to be available for the entire season.
