MBA Curriculum

The M.B.A. program at CSUSB consists of 48 quarter units designed for both full time students and the working professional. MBA graduate classes meet twice a week and are offered at 4,6, or 8pm, on a Monday/Wednesday or Tuesday/Thursday schedule.

 All students are required to take seven core classes as follows: 

Core Classes (28 units):

Info 609 Information Management Systems
Mgmt 601 Organization Theory and Behavior
Mgmt 685 Corporate Strategy in a Global Economy

Students also take five classes in one of eight concentrations:

Accounting

Provides emphasis on public accounting, management accounting, or internal auditing: or, in the areas of government and not-for-profit accounting or taxation. Additional undergraduate accounting classes are needed to fulfill the CPA requirements.

Required three courses (12 Units):

(Prerequisite: Acct 606 for all five courses)

One Elective chosen from (4 units):

One additional elective (4 units) either chosen from the two courses not chosen in the above selection, or any other 600-level business administration course approved by the MBA director and the department chair.

Entrepreneurship

For those interested in starting their own business or working effectively in the fast-paced world of growing companies. In addition to the emphasis on start-up companies and small business management, this concentration examines the strategies used in larger corporations to tap the entrepreneurial spirit.

Finance Concentration

The finance concentration is designed for those seeking advancement or employment in banks, brokerage firms, investment banking, consulting firms, insurance companies, credit unions or with other institutions that make financial decisions.

Information Assurance and Security Management

Learn the skills and applications for securing information systems and assuring the integrity of an organization's operational information. Discover the balance between technology, policy, practice, awareness, and training of information assurance and security. Key topics include: hands-on cyber warfare, computer forensics, advanced networking and infrastructure protection and industry best practices.

Required four courses (16 Units):

Information Management

Information is a major strategic resource for organizational success, and its effective management is vital. The information manager who is armed with knowledge and skills of computer technology and business functions will effectively oversee the design and management of workplace computer information systems. Student can study data communications and networking, database systems, Internet and e-business, geographical information systems (GIS) and information architecture and business process planning.

Management

Focuses on human behavior aspects of organizations such as communication, motivation, leadership, group and team performance, and employee selection, and prepares individuals for a variety of careers in the management and human resource fields.

Marketing Management

Provides for specialization in marketing, the business function that identifies unfulfilled needs and wants, defines and measures their magnitude, determine which target markets the organization can best serve, decides and appropriate products, services, and programs to serve these markets, and calls upon all employees of the organization to serve the customer. MBA graduates with this concentration find a variety of career opportunities in marketing research, advertising management, sales management, international marketing management and product management.

Required 4 courses (16 units):

Mktg 696 Marketing Strategy

And four units from 500- or -600-level courses in consultation with an advisor.

Supply Chain Management

The supply chain is the network of organizations that work together to produce and deliver a product or service. This network can include suppliers, designers, financial institutions, manufacturers, warehousing, transportation, and distributions groups and resellers. Organizations now recognize that their ability to compete and succeed in today's economy requires that they manage beyond the operations within their own "four walls." They must actively manage their supply chain.

Required 5 courses (20 units):

SCM 660 Transportation and Supply Chain Management

MBA Portfolio and Comprehensive Exam or Project

ADMN 995 MBA Portfolio course, 0 units, is used to assemble the MBA Portfolio at the end of the program. This is required for every MBA student.

In addition, all MBA students must successfully complete either ADMN 998 Comprehensive Project or ADMN 999 Comprehensive Examination.
