Summary of MPA Admission Requirements

Applicants must be accepted at the university level before being considered for a specific graduate program, like the MPA. For more information on graduate acceptance at the university, refer to the university catalog and bulletin available online. The minimum program requirements for acceptance into the MPA program include:

  • A bachelor’s degree or its equivalent from an accredited institution.

  • A GPA of 2.5 (on a four-point scale) in the last 90 quarter or 60 semester units attempted.

  • A 250-word typed "Statement of Academic Motivation & Personal Qualifications," stating the reasons for pursuing the degree and-for choosing CSUSB and mentioning special honors, skills and abilities. It will be evaluated for substantive content, grammar, vocabulary and writing style.

  • A TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) score of 550 and a TWE Test of Written English) score of 4 for applicants from countries where English is not the native language.

  • A combined GPA & GRE score of 2100, computed as follows:
    (GPA x 400) + GRE (verbal and quantitative scores only )

  • Completion of the following prerequisites or their equivalent:
    Management Science 210 or Math 305 (statistics)
    Public Administration 575 (for pre-service students only)
    Completion of the upper-division writing requirement, through any 306 writing class or satisfactory completion of writing requirement exemption exam (WREE)
     

  • NOTE: In addition to the general requirements of the university, there are specific requirements for admission to the program. Students who meet minimum requirements may be accepted by the university in post-baccalaureate standing. THIS DOES NOT MEAN THAT YOU ARE ADMITTED TO THE M.P.A. PROGRAM.
