Scholarships & Financial Aid

Financial Aid

The Financial Aid Office administers a variety of Federal and State programs to assist eligible students. Sources of aid include the Federal Pell grant, Academic Completeness Grant (ACG), National Smart Grant, the Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (SEOG), Cal Grant A/B, Federal Direct Loans, the Perkins Loans, and the Work-Study program. The Federal Direct Student Loans, Direct Plus Parental Loans, and alternative loans are also available. The office also administers the Cal Grant, the State University Grant (SUG), and the Educational Opportunity Program Grant (EOP). The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) must be submitted to the processor by March 2nd of each year. Late applications are accepted after March 2nd and throughout the academic year if funds are available.

Scholarships

Scholarships are awarded to new and continuing students attending CSUSB. The Financial Aid Office administers most scholarships on campus. Scholarships administered by the Financial Aid Office can be applied for online at the Financial Aid Website between January 1 and February 3, 2012. Applicants need only to complete the online scholarship application once to be considered for all scholarships for which they are eligible.

Arrowhead Credit Union Scholarship
Arrowhead Credit Union Expendable Scholarship Grace Tobin and Leon Gregory Memorial Scholarship was established in 2009
*Awarded to a full-time undergraduate student in the College of                   Business Public Administration or the College of Social and Behavioral         Sciences.
*Minimum G.P.A. of 3.0.
*Students demonstrating financial need based on information provided on
the application for federal aid "FAFSA" form.

Beverly Smith Scholarship
The Beverly Smith Scholarship was established in 1993
*Student must have a major of Finance or Ecology.
*Minimum G.P.A. of 3.0.

Business Alliance Scholarship
Business Alliance Scholarship was established in 2008 by the Business Alliance of the College of Business and Public Administration

*Student must be a sophomore or junior at the time of selection
*Must be enrolled in 12 units or more.
*Must be a resident of the State of California.
*Must have a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.0.
*Recipient is not scheduled to receive $2,000 from other scholarship sources.
   
The Bruce D. Varner 2004 Arrowhead Distinguished Executive Officer Endowed Scholarship
The Bruce D. Varner scholarship was established in 2004 and was funded from the proceeds of the 2004 Arrowhead Distinguished CEO Awards Luncheon
*Full-time sophomore or junior at the time of application with a declared        concentration in the College of Business and Public Administration.
*Minimum GPA of 3.25 at the time of selection and a minimum GPA of          3.25 to be maintained throughout the academic year of the award.

Candace Hunter Wiest 2005 Arrowhead Distinguished Executive Officer Scholarship
The Candace Hunter Wiest Scholarship was established in 2005 from the proceeds of the Arrowhead Distinguished Executive Officer Luncheon.

*Student must be full-time and have sophomore or junior status at the time of application with a declared concentration in the College of Business and Public Administration.
*Student must carry a minimum G.P.A. of 3.25 at the time of selection and at the completion of the quarter immediately preceding receipt of the award.

Charles and Shelby Obershaw Scholarship
The Charles and Shelby Obershaw Business Scholarship was established in 2001 to provide students with the funds to meet the cost of education.
*Full time junior students pursuing a degree in business and maintain             a 3.0 G.P.A.
*Awards will be based on financial need.
*Previous scholarship recipients are eligible to reapply for scholarship awards.

The CL Expendable Scholarship
The CL Expendable Scholarship was established in 2009 by Wing and Mui Chung Lau.  This scholarship is to provide funds to meet the cost of education--fees, books, expenses, room and board.

*Full-time undergraduate in the College of Business and Public
Administration.
*Minimum G.P.A. of 3.5.
*Students demonstrating an interest in accounting and a professional            goal of a career as a CPA.
*Financial need and merit based.

The Daniel B. Bagdon Scholarship Endowment
The Daniel B. Bagdon Scholarship was funded by Bruce and Nancy Varner Fund of the Community Foundation Serving Riverside and San Bernardino Counties and was established in 2005.This scholarship is to provide funds to meet the cost of education--fees, books, expenses, room and board.
*Full-time sophomore or junior at the time of application with a declared        concentration in the College of Business and Public Administration.
*Minimum cumulative G.P.A. 3.25 at the time of selection and a minimum       cumulative G.P.A. of 3.25 to be maintained thru out the academic year of      the award.

The David Montano Memorial Scholarship
The scholarship was established in loving memory of David Montano who passed away on October 3, 1985.  Family members, close friends, and the communtiy at large have all contributed to the establishment of the David Montano Memorial Scholarship.
*Student must have a declared major in the School of Business and Public     Administration.
*Student must be enrolled in a minimum of 12 quarter units.
*Student shall have a junior or senior standing.
*Student must have a cumulative G.P.A. of 2.7.
*Student shall plan to continue his or her postsecondary education at           CSUSB.

The Dianne Wilkman Scholarship Fund
The Dianne Wilkman Scholarship Fund was established in 2007 by Todd Emmerson, Chief Executive Officer of Springboard Nonprofit Consumer Credit Management in honor of her great work and legacy within the organization.
*Students are preparing to enter their junior or senior year toward
 a degree in the College of Business and Public Administration.
*Student must have a cumulative minimum G.P.A. of 2.5 at the time of       selection.                                                                                                 *Priority will be given to students who will be first generation college graduates.

The Donald A. Driftmier 2003 Arrowhead Distinguished Executive Officer Endowed Scholarship
The Donald A. Driftmier Arrowhead Distinguished Executive Officer Scholarship was established in 2004 funded from the proceeds of the 2003 Arrowhead Distinguished CEO Awards Luncheon.
*Student enrolled in the College of Business and Public Administration studying business.
*Minimum cumulative G.P.A. 3.25 at the time of selection and a minimum cumulative G.P.A. of 3.25 to be maintained thru out the academic year of the award.

The Fithian, Theisen & Young Expendable Scholarship
The Fithian, Theisen & Young Expendable Scholarship was established by Columbia Steel in 2008 to provide funds to help students meet the cost of education fees, books, expenses room and board.
*Student must be enrolled in the College of Business and Public Administration.
*Minimum G.P.A. of 2.8.
*Financial need only.

The Franklin Tomkins Memorial Endowed Scholarship
The Franklin Tomkins Memorial Endowed Scholarship was established by Maria Tomkins, along with friends and family in memory of Franklin Tomkins who was studying marketing at the College of Business and Public Administration.
*Junior or senior student enrolled in any major in the College of Business and Public Administration--preference will be given to marketing students.
*Minimum G.P.A. of 3.0.
*Financial need considered but not essential.

George H. Schnarre 2006 Arrowhead Distinguished
The George H. Schnarre Arrowhead Distinguished Executive Officer Scholarship was established from the proceeds of the 2006 Arrowhead Distinguished CEO Awards Luncheon.

*Students are enrolled and progressing toward degree in the College of Business and Public Administration.
*Students must carry a minimum G.P.A. of 3.25.
*Students are initially selected on the basis of scholarship, leadership and service.
*Preferred concentration of Real Estate, Finance or Accounting in Business.

Hal Hoverland Scholarship                                                                       The Hal Hoverland Scholarship was established in 1993
*Junior or Senior with a concentration in Accounting; must have sucessfully
passed Accounting 372.
*This is a merit scholarship, and selection is based upon academic acheivement: Minumum G.P.A. 3.5.
*Financial need is not a factor.

The Jack H. Brown/ Food Industries Sales Association
The Food Insutdries Sales Club of Riverside and San Bernardino Counties established an endowed scholarship in honor of Jack H. Brown, with initial contribution early in 1993. The club proposed to add to the scholarship annually and to solicit other similar groups to do the same.
*The scholarship is designed for undergraduate students majoring in disciplines within the School of Business and Public Administration.
*Preference will be given to students who are employed in or intend to pursue a career in the food industry.

Jack Scott Scholarship
The Jack C. Scott Memorial Scholarship was established in 1995 by friends and family of Jack C. Scott. 

*Accounting concentration:  Junior or Senior status; must have completed Accounting 426 worth at least a “B”.
*This merit scholarship and selection is based upon academic achievement:  with an Accounting G.P.A. greater than or equal to 3.0 and an overall G.P.A. greater to 3.0.
*Recipient must carry a minimum of 12 units per quarter and not graduate before March of the year for which the scholarship is awarded. 
*Financial need is not a factor.

Janice Tillema Memorial Scholarship

The Janice Tillema Memorial Scholarship was established in 2000.
*Minimum G.P.A. 3.0.
*Student living within Citizens Business Bank service area, Inland Empire, San Gabriel Valley, Orange County*Full-time undergraduate or graduate student.
*Student enrolled in a business major.

Dean Karen Dill Bowerman Scholarship
Dean Karen Dill Bowerman Scholarship was established by the Business Alliance in 2010 in honor of the Dean’s retirement on December 31st.  Dean Bowerman served as Dean of the College of Business and Public Administration and the community for six years.
*Student enrolled in the College of Business and Public Administration making satisfactory progress toward completion of an undergraduate degree in business administration, preferably with a concentration in management.  *Minimum cumulative G.P.A. 3.25 with classification of junior at the time of selection and senior at the time of the award.
*Preference is given to students who graduate from a high school in either San Bernardino or Riverside County.

John F Merrell Charitable Foundation Scholarship
The John F. Merrell Charitable Foundation scholarships were established in 2008 in memory of John Merrell who was orphaned at a very young age. Self-educated, Mr. Merrell was able to build a multi-million dollar business in the magazine distribution industry in the Inland Empire.
*Student in enrolled in the College of Business and Public Administration, in the Accounting and Finance department. 
*Demonstrates and interest in accounting and/or finance.
*Minimum G.P.A. 3.0 (cumulative and CSUSB) at the time of selection.

Noel and Amanda Massie Scholarship
The Noel and Amanda Massie Scholarship was established from the proceeds of the Arrowhead Distinguished Executive Officer event in honor of Noel. *Student enrolled in the College of Business and Public Administration and making satisfactory progress toward a degree in the college.
*Minimum cumulative and College of Business and Public Administration G.P.A. of 3.0 at the time of the awards of funds if the student is an undergraduate, and 3.25 if the student is in the graduate program.

Poma Family Business Scholarship

The Poma Family Business Scholarship was established in October 1997 by Carmen and Gene Poma 
*Maintains a minimum G.P.A. of 2.9.
*Known to be friendly, outgoing and have a good sense of humor
*Demonstrates an involvement in community service activities
*Demonstrates financial need.
*Is persistent, industrious and hard working.
*Is a full time student–sophomore, junior or senior majoring in one of the following: Accounting, financial management, information systems, retail management, production management or international business.

Richard C. Moseley Marketing Scholarship
The Richard C. Moseley Scholarship was established by Jack Brown Chairman, President and CEO of Stater Bros. Markets in 1997
*First preference will be given to employees of Stater Bros. Markets and immediate relatives of employees of Stater Bros. Markets.
*Second preference will be given to individuals employed in the supermarket industry.
*Students must have an overall G.P.A. of at least 3.0.
*Students must have sophomore, junior or senior class status and be majoring in Marketing within the College of Business and Public Administration.  If there are not enough Marketing students who qualify then the scholarships will be awarded to students enrolled in other majors in the CBPA and who comply with the remainder of the criteria.
*Students must be full-time (minimum 12 units per quarter).
*Financial need considered but not essential.

Robert and Yolanda Wengen Scholarship
The Scholarship was established in July 2010, by Robert and Yolanda Wengen.  Robert is an alumnus who received a BA ’90 from the College of Business and Public Administration.
*Full or part-time undergraduate students in the College of Business and Public Administration.
*Minimum G.P.A. of 3.5
*Students with a concentration in finance or accounting.
*Financial need.

Spirit of the Entrepreneur Scholarship

CSUSB, Department of Public Administration Scholarships:

Caroll J. Bellis Scholarship
*The Carol J. Bellis Scholarship is awarded to an undergraduate student majoring in Public Administration.
*One letter of recommendation.

Clifford Young, Ph.D. Expendable Scholarship
The Clifford Young scholarship was established in 2002 by Clifford Young, Ph.D. to provide funds to meet the cost of education-fees books, expenses, room and board.

*Student is admitted and/or enrolled in the MPA program.
*Demonstrates an interest to continue education beyond Master's Degree.
*Students with historically disadvantaged background.

Nancy E. Smith Scholarship
The Nancy E. Smith was established in her memory by Gary Winkle Smith and Dr. William Coleman.
*Student/s enrolled in the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences, Political Science Department or the College of Business and Public Administration, Public Administration Department. 
*Minimum G.P.A. of 3.0 or greater for undergraduate students and 3.2 or greater for graduate students.
*Demonstrates interest in a career in public service or public service organizations.
*Financial need considered but not essential.
