Intern Guidelines - Need an Internship?

To find out how our program works, YOU MUST READ THE OVERVIEW AND STEPS BELOW!   The 575 internship course is only a part of our internship program (which is why we have a separate 575 course forms web page). It's not hard, but rather simple to follow. Good luck!

CSUSB Students

BRIEF OVERVIEW:

  • First, see if you're eligible to participate in an internship (review FAQ section).
  • You must also meet the 575 internship course requirements (see the FAQ section).
  • Have a resume and cover letter ready to e-mail in response to an internship opportunity.
  • Know where to search for internships, and how to prepare for an interview.
  • When you've obtained an internship, submit by e-mail the two start-up forms below with a brief description to your Faculty Coordinator to be enrolled.
  • While you wait for approval, complete first 3 forms under the 575 Course Form section.  Once approved, your department secretary will enroll you.

STEP FOUR:  (a) 575 Course Forms -  (b) Blackboard

(a)  575 Internship Course Forms:  While you wait for approval and to be enrolled, go to 575 Course Forms page and complete the first three course forms.  These forms along with the instructions are available under the "Sample" Blackboard course too.   Review the complete 575 Course Forms section to know what to do and when to submit your 1-page mid-term report, classroom presentations, etc.

Remember to submit a copy of the three BEGINNING 575 course forms to your Faculty Internship Coordinator, and to the CBPA Internship Office soon after you've been enrolled, but no later than the census date for that quarter.

(b)  Blackboard:  Once enrolled in a 575 course, you'll have access to "CBPA Internships" on Blackboard when the quarter starts. In the meantime you can visit our SAMPLE format by typing "muser" in the username and password boxes. Check it out!

WHAT DO I DO NEXT?

STEP FIVE:  Attend the next quarterly Internship Orientation.  Go to Upcoming Events & Announcements section for the next date, time & location. Students enrolled in a CBPA 575 internship course are required to attend.  This is a one-hour session covering the Internship website, Blackboard, internship forms, Q&A time.

WHAT OTHER FORMS MIGHT I NEED TO COMPLETE?

I'VE SUBMITTED THE BEGINNING FORMS, WHAT'S NEXT?

STEP SEVEN (b):  You're all set. Most of you will have already started your internship assignment, and have gone through a brief orientation at your work site. Great! Remember to journalize your activities.   See also Host Tips section for helpful information.

Obtain regular feedback from your supervisor to assure you're on the right track.   Have a sit down brief meeting mid-way through your internship to review how things are progressing, and discuss what remains for the second half of your internship period.
